General Hospital Spoilers Speculation: Why Mason Is Really Keeping Nikolas Alive

GH spoilers teased Austin had a cousin, but from the time Mason first showed up, viewers have been confused about what exactly he wanted, and why he was even there. We know he’s mob-connected, and we can’t help but wonder if he’s pretending to be Austin’s cousin, while really using him to patch up various criminals who, for obvious reasons, can’t walk into your average emergency room. Probably because they don’t have insurance. The mob doesn’t have a great medical or dental plan. What…there’s another reason they need Austin to sew them up for free?

GH Spoilers Speculation: Raising the Stakes

Mason must have sensed that Austin (Roger Howarth) was getting bored being his go-to medic, so he decided to up the stakes to make sure he still had Austin’s loyalty. After Ava (Maura West) thought she’d killed Nikolas (Adam Huss), and Austin decided to help her hide the body…for some reason, Mason got his hands on Nik’s body…somehow…and now he’s got him hidden away on life-support.

Which he managed to do without Austin’s help, so obviously, Mason has another doctor on call. This has got to be better than whatever blackmail material Mason had on Austin before. So we can only hope he’s planning to do something more interesting with it.

The Big General Hospital Prize

Mason is in the mob, right? And the one thing we’ve learned about mobsters — whether they be bad like Selina (Lydia Look) or good like Sonny (Maurice Benard) — is that they always want the opportunity to mob more. Ava is a member of the very connected Jerome crime family.

For Mason to get maximum bang for his Nik buck, he should forget about penny-ante Austin’s blackmail, and move on to Ava. Whatever the Jeromes have, Mason should demand. That would finally give this heretofore unclear plot some serious stakes. And move this dreary story along. Think this speculation could happen? Let us know in the comments section below.
