NCIS: Los Angeles may be airing its final episode later this spring, but Eric Christian Olsen just announced he isn’t leaving TV just yet.

The actor shocked his followers a few weeks after CBS revealed that the program would end after 14 seasons by sharing his upcoming project on Instagram. Eric revealed that he is remaining with the network to work on a show that is modeled after the 1980s legal drama Matlock by posting a screenshot of an article from TVLine. He will not only co-executively produce it through his firm Cloud Nine Productions, but Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates will play the lead role.

“So overwhelmed with excitement to be partnering with these creative superstars,” he wrote on February 9. “Jennie [Snyder Urman], Joanna [Klein], Sierra, Bethany, Kathy, Kat, Anna [Volain Jones], Meagen, John [Will], our partners at @cbstvstudios and @cbstv LFG!!!!”

Due to the fact that Eric developed a loyal following portraying Marty Deeks for more than a decade, NCIS: LA fans were ecstatic over his career development. What’s more, they expressed how they can’t wait to see him in a completely different role.

“So glad that you’ve been signed onto another great CBS show with a fantastic cast Eric,” one person wrote in the Instagram comments section. “I’m definitely going to tune in to watch. Congratulations to all of you! 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏻,” a different user exclaimed. “Eric, we are so excited for you!! Great work!!!” another follower added.

Do any specifics exist regarding Matlock and the role that the Fired Up! star plays in it? According to a report from Deadline, the series will follow Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) as she rejoins the workforce at a famous law firm in a reimagined version of the original series. She will aid in case resolution and uncover illegal work practices concealed within thanks to her unexpected eccentricities and distinctive style.

While it’s unclear whether Eric will join the cast, one other famous actor will star alongside Kathy. Deadline announced in March that Jason Ritter will play Julian, “the son of the head of the firm,” who feels an imbalance between work and family life. As the outlet wrote, “He always considers the good of the firm, even if it pushes the boundaries between his work and personal life.”

Sounds like Eric is in for a wild ride, and we can’t wait to see this come to fruition.
