Blue Bloods has long been a fan favorite among viewers. The hit CBS police procedural drama revolves around the law enforcement dealings of the Reagans, a New York City family. Of course, there are major characters in the series who collaborate closely with the Reagans. The Blue Bloods universe often extends beyond the Reagan clan’s members, from coworkers to partners and fellow law enforcement officials. And, every now and then, the popular CBS drama takes a break from dealing with New York City crimes to focus on the characters, giving some major characters extra depth within the series.
Stomping Ground, an episode from the sixth season of Blue Bloods, is an example of this. This episode allowed viewers to get to know one character, Danny Reagan’s partner Maria Baez, on a more personal level. Giving us a glimpse into detective Baez’s haunting past, in which he had previously held some deep feelings.
A ‘Blue Bloods’ Officer Makes a Significant Contribution to the Popular Series
During the third season of the popular show, we first met Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). Detective Baez became Detective Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) partner after Detective Jackie Curatola left the force (Jennifer Esposito). Ramirez’s Baez has since become a fan favorite in the series. One of the most well-known characters who does not have the surname Reagan.
Danny and Baez are working a crime scene in season six, canvassing a neighborhood for any witnesses they can find. The partners end up in a diner while conducting their investigation. Baez notices something – or someone – that irritates her, and the New York City detective exits the establishment quickly. Danny eventually catches up with her companion, hoping to figure out what’s wrong. This is the point at which Baez shares a troubling memory from her past with her Blue Bloods partner.
Baez Opens Up About A Disturbing Past Occurrence
Baez tells her partner that she saw a man named Octavio Nunez in the diner (Ski Carr). Nunez is a drug trafficker from her community. Baez goes on to tell Danny Reagan that she witnessed the drug trafficker stomp her neighbor to d3ath when she was only ten years old. Fortunately, the Blue Bloods detectives eventually come up with a reason to arrest Nunez. Baez can then confront the murd3rer and tell him exactly what she saw all those years ago.
This episode was especially meaningful for the Blue Bloods detective because it allowed viewers to get to know Baez’s family. We learn that Baez’s brother Javier (Kirk Acevedo) died years ago while protecting her. Furthermore, Baez’s sister holds the detective responsible for Javier’s d3ath. This provides viewers with a valuable insight into why the New York City detective decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. And, finally, after all those years, Baez was able to put Nunez away, providing the officer with much-needed closure.
