This Twist Could Make Or Break ‘Outlander’ Season 8

The extremely successful historical fantasy drama series Outlander has been a part of many people’s lives for over a decade. The first season of Outlander was released back in 2014, and the last episode of Season 7 aired not too long ago on Starz. Even though it is a long-running show, the series, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series, has been far from boring.

While the first six seasons, which are available to stream on Netflix, are a ride through thrilling uncertainty and wild incidents, this latest season, in particular, has brought back an unexpected name, which definitely caused some (or a lot of) confusion among fans and an intense need to find out more. The widely loved series is known for its many twists and turns, but this shocking twist could make or break Outlander Season 8.

Claire and Jamie’s Daughter Faith Might Be Alive in ‘Outlander’

Before Brianna was born, Claire and Jamie already had a daughter named Faith, who was stillborn during their time in France, where Master Raymond cared for Claire. Since Claire even held the baby in her arms for an entire day, seeing through her own eyes that there was nothing to be done, she and every single Outlander fan were convinced that Faith was never going to reappear. However, Outlander Season 7 decided to shock everyone with a massive twist.

When William found out about Jamie being his father, he went slightly rogue and ended up meeting a prostitute, Jane Pocock, who he then tried to help when she murdered a man who tried to take her little sister, Fanny, to bed with him. Despite attempts to save her from prison, Jane didn’t make it, destroying the hopes of many to see Jane and William as an endgame couple in Outlander.

As a consequence, William asked Claire and Jamie to take Fanny with them to Fraser’s Ridge. Something odd happened though, because when they met, Fanny was singing “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside”, which is a song from the future, and also the same song Claire sang to Faith. Naturally, her first thought was that Faith had survived and that Fanny was, in fact, her granddaughter.

Bringing Back Faith Could Help Claire in ‘Outlander’

When Claire first met Master Raymond during her time in France in Season 2 of the Starz hit series, she learned that he possessed healing powers, which he described as a blue aura emanating from him. After Claire lost Faith, and she was struggling with her grief, Master Raymond explained to Claire that she had the same powers as him but still had to step into them. While Claire was also surrounded by a blue aura, the time-traveling Master Raymond explained that Jamie had the red aura of a warrior. Later, a Mohawk healer told Claire that once her hair had turned white, she would be able to fully step into her healing powers.

Touching upon Master Raymond and Claire’s healing powers throughout the show could suggest that Master Raymond was actually able to save Faith and, for whatever reason, took her with him. It might be that Master Raymond is using this arguably extreme approach to show Claire what is possible, and maybe she was only ready to find out about it after she had to face death herself after being shot. Maybe surviving and finding out about her daughter is the last push she needs to finally be ready to explore her own powers beyond the practical approaches she is used to.

There is no denying that Faith’s death was extremely hard on Jamie and Claire, and bringing her back could still make for an exciting twist if it’s done well. Whether it’s through knowing that she lived and learning more about her life or finding out that she is actually also a time traveler and still alive, Faith could become an important character in Season 8 of Outlander. With everyone’s return to Fraser Ridge, it would feel like a full circle moment to also have Faith return or at least a part of her through Fanny.

In ‘Outlander’ There Are Too Many Storylines, Too Little Time

The James Fraser actor Sam Heughan revealed to Decider that the beginning of Outlander Season 8 will pick up the questions surrounding Faith and offer some much-needed explanation. It certainly does sound like Faith will play an important role in the new season, one way or the other, as even just stirring up the memories of the time Faith was born will likely cause Jamie and Claire understandable pain. Now, with the possibility of Faith having lived, the confusion tying in with hope could really throw them into a whirlwind of emotions.

If it turns out that Faith really lived and Fanny is indeed Claire’s granddaughter, then it would introduce a major storyline. It would raise a heap of questions regarding how Faith survived, whether she is still alive, and perhaps even a time traveler. If so, then Faith might be alive in a different time, but having Claire travel to find Faith would take away from everything else that fans are hoping to see resolved in Season 8. It simply seems impossible to introduce a whole new timeline in the last season of Outlander, and it would likely ruin the show.

With Brianna and Roger returning to Claire and Jamie’s time with both their children, the difficult dynamic between William and Jamie, as well as between Jamie and spin-off worthy Lord John, the long-running series on Starz already has a lot to focus on. Apart from the fact that robbing Jamie of raising a child of his for the third, their granddaughter working as a prostitute against her will and dying as a result, Claire’s trusted friend lying to her for decades, and simply using magic as a way of bringing back a stillborn baby, when it was an important and relatable factor to many in the show, there is also the fact that lovers William and Jane would be related. No matter how desperately answers are needed, only time will tell if this twist will make or break Outlander. Outlander is available to stream on Netflix and Starz.
