A new update about NCIS: Tony & Ziva hints at a promising future for the series. The upcoming series tells the story of Tony DiNozzo attempting to raise his and Ziva’s daughter, Tali, after Ziva apparently dies, and then changing his life again when the still-alive Ziva reunites with him years later. The NCIS: Tony & Ziva cast includes Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, Anne-Marie Waldeck, Velibor Topic, Emmanuel Bonami, and Josh Burdett. As of now, the series is set to have 10 episodes and premiere on Paramount+ in fall 2025.
A new report from TVLine suggests that NCIS: Tony & Ziva will have a life beyond season 1. The source admitted that showrunner John McNamara’s quote did seem to suggest a miniseries, but thought that might not be the case. According to the insider, there could be more seasons if it becomes successful. Check out the full quote below:
Showrunner John McNamara’s quote about being “excited to tell a single, serialized story of intrigue and espionage over 10 episodes” did have a whiff of “limited series,” but I am hearing that, in success, there absolutely could be additional seasons of the Paramount+ spinoff.
What This Means For NCIS: Tony & Ziva
NCIS Shows Have Done Well
While this update is hopeful, the viability of the NCIS spinoff extending beyond a limited series will almost surely stem down to how much interest they have in viewership. The flagship series has been able to sustain itself for over two decades, boasting nearly 500 episodes. They have also supported several spinoffs, including two still running (NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney). Even the concluded series, such as NCIS: Los Angeles, have done well, being fairly long-running.
NCIS has never had a spinoff lasting just a single season, which could hint at the show’s longer lifespan. The Tony and Ziva storyline is a long-running and dramatic aspect of the main show, with Ziva seeming to die in season 13. It was not until NCIS season 16 that it was revealed that she was still alive, but in hiding, and she appeared as a guest star in season 17. As such, it has been several years since viewers have seen this storyline, so they will likely be interested in seeing the character again.
Our Take On Tony & Ziva’s Longevity
Paramount+ Is A Good Place For The Series
Another point about the Tony & Ziva spinoff is the fact that it is airing on Paramount+. The streamer has done well with both new and returning series, boasting high viewership numbers last year for Landman season 1, Lioness season 2, and other returning series. This is a good platform for network TV-inspired shows, and its crime themes align with what existing subscribers seem to be interested in. NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s success will likely boost the renewal chances, and it seems high.
