Star Wars Brings Back A Terrifying Clone Wars Nightsister Force Power

One Nightsister Force ability seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars makes its live-action debut in The Acolyte. Nightsisters, along with all other Witches of Dathomir, debuted in Dave Wolverton’s 1994 novel The Courtship of Princess Leia, though the first live-action Nightsister appeared in the 1985 film Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, thanks to a retcon. These properties are part of the Star Wars Legends continuity, however, and Nightsisters underwent significant reimagining upon being introduced to the modern Star Wars canon in The Clone Wars.

In their original Legends incarnation, Nightsisters were among the few of Dathomir’s Witch clans who rejected the mantra of “never concede to evil,” choosing instead to embrace the dark side. This is also the case for the modern canon’s version of the Nightsisters, who use deadly and esoteric Force abilities described as “magick.” One such power is also used by another coven of witches, as shown in The Acolyte.

The Coven Of Brendok Possess A Unique Force Transportation Power

In The Acolyte’s penultimate episode “Choice,” Jedi Master Sol and Padawan Torbin briefly battle the witches of Aniseya’s coven on Brendok, with Aniseya and Koril using the Force to teleport, briefly taking the form of black smoke in the process. Although Koril uses the ability to flee from Sol and Torbin, Aniseya’s use of the power shocks Sol, leading him to impale her. A similar power made its modern canon debut in The Clone Wars and has appeared in several other Star Wars properties since then, with the ability nearly always used by witches.

Star Wars’ New Force Power Is Lifted Straight From The Clone Wars

Mother Talzin is shown using a similar teleportation power in The Clone Wars episode “Massacre,” briefly taking the form of green ichor instead of black vapor. The Nightsister Merrin also notably uses the power in the Jedi video games, allowing her to pass through Imperial force fields. The modern Star Wars canon has introduced new witch clans, such as the Mountain Clan of Dathomir – likely inspired by the Singing Mountain Clan from the Legends continuity – who can also teleport.

The mysterious being known as the Bendu, who debuted in Star Wars Rebels, possesses many esoteric powers, resembling those of Jedi, Sith, and witches. This includes teleportation, which he used during Grand Admiral Thrawn’s attack on Atollon. While the power of teleportation is seemingly not exclusive to dark side users, it is nevertheless an ability not used by the Jedi, as implied by Sol’s reaction to it in The Acolyte.

The Acolyte episode 7 is now streaming. The final episode premieres Tuesday at 9 PM ET on Disney+.
