Caitriona Balfe of the acclaimed Starz series Outlander has spoken of the “deep love” she holds for her on-screen partner, Sam Heughan, who portrays Jamie Fraser. Over a shared journey spanning 11 years, their off-camera relationship has grown strong.

The actress reflected on a time when she supported Sam through a “very difficult” period in his life, recalling how she stood in for him when emotions ran high during filming.

With season 7 part 2 on the horizon, Caitriona opened up in an interview with She Knows about the strength of their bond and the reciprocal support they provide one another, reports the Daily Record.

During the She Knows interview, Caitriona revealed many instances where they have unconditionally supported each other throughout the years.

She expressed her sentiments, stating: “Sam and I, I feel like we are truly family. And we may not always be the closest in terms of, like, we don’t hang out maybe as much as sometimes he hangs out with other people on the cast, or I hang out with other people on the cast.

“I think just because sometimes our interests divide, but we truly have each other’s backs. Like, truly are there for each other.”

Reflecting on a particularly challenging moment, Caitriona recounted: “I mean, the first thing that comes to mind, I was having a tough time with a scene and a situation this season, and you know, Sam’s the first person to come to my trailer and be there for me and kind of talk me through it.

Taking swift action to give him space, she revealed: “And so, I was like, ‘He needs a minute, but they’re about to go.’ And I was just like, ‘Ahhhh! I have to go to the toilet!’

“And I ran out of the room just to stop things so that he could have his minute. And I’m sure everyone thought I had diarrhea, but I was willing to look like I had diarrhea for that man. So yeah, that’s how deep our love goes.”
