Outlander’s Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna Fraser, nearly knocked down Lallybroch, the fictional Fraser family’s home (and the real-life Midhope Castle in Scotland), from behind the wheel of her character’s Mustang.
“I don’t know if I just couldn’t reach the pedal very well, but I was stalling the car very much,” Skelton exclusively told Parade at the SCAD TVFest in Atlanta, Ga., on Feb. 7. “And then I hit some black ice and nearly destroyed Lallybroch, which I don’t think anybody actually knows that yet, but it happened. Lallybroch was nearly not standing anymore because I drove my Mustang into the arch.”
Skelton isn’t the only person on the Outlander cast who’s had trouble behind the wheel: Caitriona Balfe has shared that the California DMV declared her “one of the worst drivers” in the state.
“I may have gotten a few letters,” she said on The Late Late Show With James Corden in 2020. “I think the first letter I got said I was among one of California’s worst drivers.” The story has hilariously followed her around in the years since.
“In real life I’m a very good driver, no matter what the L.A. DMV says,” she jokingly insisted at the 2024 PaleyFest.
On the flip side, Outlander heartthrob Sam Heughan doesn’t seem to have any trouble handling a motor vehicle—and he certainly knows how to ride a motorcycle. The Scottish stud previously told Parade that he does a lot of his own riding for his Starz show The Couple Next Door.
