Outlander’s final moments are still a mystery as producer Maril Davis confirms the historical drama’s ending is currently undecided.

Outlander’s final chapters remain an enigma, puzzling cast and crew alike.

The epic journey of Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) is set to conclude with the eighth season next year, following the closure of season seven’s forthcoming episodes.

Next season resumes the Frasers’ tale as they voyage back to Scotland, leaving their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton), fraught with anxiety back home while her spouse Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) ventures through time again to rescue their kidnapped child.

The ensemble has now finished filming for the eighth season, with Heughan noting that a return for “pick ups” will occur soon.

Enthusiasts of the series are eager for the continuation of the Frasers’ narrative, and recently the cast, joined by producer Maril Davis at New York Comic Con, offered sneak peeks in to what lies ahead in the Outlander odyssey.

At the event, Davis let slip that the finale’s crucial scenes are being kept strictly under wraps.

Upon being questioned about how many had glimpsed the concluding episode’s full script during the panel, she admitted: “Some people have seen it.

“But, Matt Roberts, our showrunner, purposefully didn’t want – and it wasn’t just the actors – he didn’t want everyone to get our normal distribution.”

She concluded, saying, “So we did not put out the full script to everyone. Still, to this day, not everyone has seen it, we’re not telling people the ending.”

Davis then divulged to fans that the finale of Outlander is shrouded in secrecy.

“He hasn’t decided the ending,” she shared. “We purposefully are doing that because there are leaks.”

“Not these people!” she quickly reassured, signalling her faith in the cast’s discretion regarding the show’s climactic conclusion.

“But people talk. And we’re just trying to preserve it.”

Heughan added a witty interjection: “We’ll tell you, don’t worry”, stirring laughter at the panel discussion. “They’ll tell you after,” Davis shot back.

The brains behind the Outlander book series, Diana Gabaldon, however, is in the loop about the show’s closing chapter.

“We were very careful,” Davis asserted. “We didn’t want to step on her toes. There is another book.

“So, we’re ending it the way we are, we just wanted to be respectful of not ending it the way she would.”

As readers keenly await the tenth Outlander novel, followers of the TV series steel themselves for an emotional goodbye to the beloved world of Claire, Jamie, and their extended family.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
