NCIS: Origins season 2 has received a fantastic update, which is good news for one of NCIS’ best spinoffs. The NCIS universe has grown extensively since NCIS premiered in the early 2000s. With NCIS: Origins being the first prequel show, the series has also allowed the flagship to expand some of its earliest storylines. One storyline that will likely expand in the NCIS: Origins’ future is Gibbs’ connection to the team at NCIS: New Orleans.

As NCIS and its spinoffs ran for several years before the release of the prequel, there’s a lot of history behind the show’s storylines. Fortunately, NCIS: Origins has stayed true to canon so far, and it seems like it has every intention of maintaining this precedent. This means it is highly likely that more NCIS characters will appear in the flagship, including NCIS: New Orleans’ Dwayne Pride.

NCIS: Origins Is Committed To The Flagship’s Canon

NCIS: Origins Is Not Changing History

While NCIS: Origins seemed to occasionally veer off the path from NCIS canon, it always came back with an explanation. As such, NCIS: Origins season 1 has proved that the show is committed to following the storylines of NCIS. This was also shown in the season finale, which introduced Diane and Lara Macy, two important characters in Gibbs’ life. NCIS: Origins’ commitment goes even further as their co-showrunner, Gina Lucita Monreal, revealed to TVLine, “The canon matters to us, and we never want to ignore it.” Read her full quote below:

“We always have our eye on canon. We have a big huge timeline in the writers room and we’re really strict about sticking to it. The canon matters to us, and we never want to ignore it. So, all the things that we’re seeing in canon, we will address one way or another.”

NCIS: Origins’ decision to stay true to NCIS is great news because it means NCIS’ storylines won’t be tossed aside for something new. It also means more context will be given to beloved stories. NCIS seemed to have fleshed out Shannon and Kelly’s murder as well as Hernandez’s retaliation murder, but NCIS: Origins showed how much of the story remained untold. The same can be true for other iconic storylines in NCIS’s backdoor pilots or other character introductions.

NCIS: Origins’ Canon Approach Means New Orleans’ Dwayne Pride Will Inevitably Debut

Dwayne Pride Is One Of The Most Iconic Characters In The NCIS Franchise

While Dwayne Pride was first introduced in NCIS season 11 as a way to form a backdoor pilot for NCIS: New Orleans, his relationship with Gibbs formed several years before NCIS: Origins’ premiere. His history with Gibbs, along with NCIS: Origins’ commitment to following the NCIS’ stories, means Dwayne will likely make his first appearance in the prequel sometime soon.

Even though Monreal’s quote did not reveal when more NCIS characters would be making their first appearances, it’s clear that many beloved franchise characters will be appearing soon. If the season 1 finale is any indication, the show may even be speeding up these introductions. As a result, one of the characters to appear will eventually be Pride, as the timing of NCIS canon calls for it.

Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ History With Dwayne Pride Explained

Gibbs And Pride Are Friends And Allies

Gibbs and Pride share a long history that began in the mid-1980s, as per NCIS canon. The two characters met while Gibbs was still in the Marine Corps. Later, both men went on to join NIS, although in different locations, as Pride never makes his appearance in NCIS: Origins season 1. Regardless, they remained friends and would even grow their careers together in the years to come. In NCIS season 11, Gibbs even claims that he would trust Pride with his life, which shows the strength of Gibbs and Pride’s relationship.

However, Gibbs and Pride’s relationship goes beyond a simple friendship, as the two were also part of the “Fed Five,” a legendary group of skilled agents made of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Dwayne Pride, Mike Franks, as well as Dan McClain and Felix Bett. The group became known after they took down the Privileged Killer. The timing of the introduction to the Fed Five aligns with NCIS: Origins season 2, which makes Pride’s introduction all the more likely.
