NCIS fans are missing NCIS: Hawaiʻi and promise not to watch NCIS Origins which they feel is “white bread” in comparison
NCIS fans are still mourning the loss of NCIS: Hawaiʻi and what it meant to to them.
Many fans have been lamenting the cancelled spinoff police procedural show and recently a fan went X formerly Twitter to discuss it. They specifically tweeted about how they can’t get themselves to watch the new CBS spinoff show, NCIS: Origins with NCIS Hawai’i gone. Since NCIS Hawai’i was cancelled, NCIS: Origins has taken its time slot this fall with new episodes airing after the original NCIS on Monday nights.
The fan wrote: “Middle of the night I can’t sleep randomness… I will never watch NCIS: Origins because they canceled the popular & amazing NCIS: Hawaii, which had a woman lead, & diversity: Black, Asian, LGBTQ & Samoan characters as main cast And replaced it with the most white bread show. NCIS: Hawaiʻi.”
Others felt similar as they expressed that they are boycotting for the same reason and one fan brought up how this reasoning is why they are not watching another reboot police procedural from another network. One fan wrote: “Same here been boycotting since the cancellation and fighting everyday to #SaveNCISHawaii.” A second fan wrote: “Same reason I won’t watch the Hawaii 5-0 reboot. They treated the Asian actors as subpar people.”
NCIS Hawai’i was cancelled in April 2024 after three seasons, airing its last episode in May. It was the fourth installment in the NCIS franchise. The CBS spinoff was the first in the franchise to be spearheaded by a woman and a woman of color. Vanessa Lachey lead the series as Jane Tennant, Special Agent in Charge of the NCIS Hawai’i Field Office and Naval Criminal Investigative Service. The show featured other prominent characters of colors played by Alex Tarrant (Kai Holman), Noah Mills (Jesse Boone), Jason Antoon (Ernie Malik), and Yasmine Al-Bustami (Lucy Tara).
At an April event celebrating NCIS 1,000 episode in the franchise, Vanessa spoke to PEOPLE about what it meant to be the first female lead.
“It’s an honor to be able to add to this incredible franchise and to do it as the first female lead has meant more to me than I can ever express,” she said. “It shows the incredible evolution and longevity that NCIS continues to give its fans.”
NCIS :Origins, which premiered this October, is a prequel to the original NCIS and it follows the protagonist Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991 for the early years of his investigative career as a Probationary NIS Agent while dealing with the murder of his wife and daughter.
