Devastation has hit the fanbase as it’s been announced that both NCIS and its spin-off, NCIS: Origins, will be going on a six-week hiatus. The beloved series will not broadcast new episodes from December through to January, sparking an outcry on social media platforms.
One distressed viewer vented: “WDYM I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY 27TH FOR NCIS 28TH FOR THE FBIS AND THE 31ST FOR NCIS SYDNEY, FIRE COUNTRY AND SWAT I’M SO SAD,” in a post on X.
Another fan shared their momentary mix-up, commenting: “Saw a still from tonight’s NCIS and because I was scrolling fast I had to go back and be like ‘WHY IS MARISKA- oh wait that’s not Mariska.’ happy week one of hiatus! This might happen a bit.”
In an effort to cut down on reruns, the shows will pause after their Christmas specials, resuming on January 27.
Both NCIS and NCIS: Origins are set to air their episodes every Monday up until December 16, then taking the seasonal break before returning with fresh content on January 27. It’s a standard practice for TV series to take breaks during the holiday season, with some ABC shows even pausing for about four months over winter.
NCIS: Origins enthusiasts were thrilled to hear that CBS has ordered a full season of the show, alongside the comedy Poppa’s House, as reported by Variety.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, shared with Variety: “These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+,” reports the Mirror US.
Fans expressed their joy on X, with remarks such as, “That’s great to hear” and “It means NCIS Origins gets a Season 2 next year!”
Another eager viewer commented: “AMAZING news! I’m loving this show a lot. It’s the best show of the new season. Character driven and full of interesting back stories and a very talented cast. It truly feels like a cable series. Very strong writing and acting in all aspects.”
