It was the end of an era when Mark Harmon stepped down as a series regular on NCIS, but he’s returning to the screen by revisiting another role from his past. Recent set photos have revealed a sneak peek at Harmon’s return in the upcoming Disney sequel, Freaky Friday 2.

Per the Daily Mail, images taken from the Freaky Friday 2 set showcase Harmon in action. He will be reprising his role from the 2003 version of Freaky Friday, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in the lead roles. Both Curtis and Lohan are returning, and an official image of the two on set was previously released by Disney. In the original film, Harmon played Curtis’ love interest, and the new set images reveal all three actors reunited to film an outdoor scene walking down the street.

This seems to suggest that the marriage between Curtis and Harmon’s characters is still going strong after more than two decades. How much he will be featured in the film remains to be seen. Along with the three returning stars, the new movie’s cast also includes Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao, Julia Butters, and Manny Jacinto. Nisha Ganatra is directing the film, which is written by Jordan Weiss.

Will Mark Harmon Return to the NCIS Franchise After His 2021 Exit?

The future of Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the world of NCIS is unclear, but while he’s gone as a series regular, the possibility of a special appearance happening will always be there. In a way, Harmon will soon be reprising his role as Gibbs as well, but it won’t be for an on-screen appearance. He’s voicing the older Gibbs, serving as the series narrator of the upcoming prequel series NCIS: Origins. Harmon and his son, Sean Harmon, are both serving as executive producers on the new series.

Harmon has been a part of the franchise since appearing as Gibbs in JAG, the parent series that would spawn NCIS as a spinoff. Starting in 2003, he starred as Gibbs in NCIS, helping to make the series one of television’s most popular programs. His run ended in 2021 with Harmon leaving as a series regular during Season 19.

Freaky Friday 2 doesn’t have a release date set at this time, but Harmon’s NCIS: Origins will be debuting on CBS this fall.
