House of the Dragon art imagines if Alicent’s children shared her hair color instead of Targaryen blonde. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the prequel series chronicles the devastating Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Early on, one of the key characters in this conflict is Alicent Hightower, played by Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke, who marries King Viserys and gives birth to four children – Aegon, Aemond, Helaena, and Daeron – the last of which has yet be seen on screen.
Now, some AI art shared by queenboltons on Instagram imagines if Alicent’s children shared her hair color instead of Targaryen blonde.
A total of four slides, the art shows Aegon, Aemond, Helaena, and Daeron all with Hightower brown hair instead of the blonde that Targaryens are known for.
Hair Color Is Very Highly Important In Game Of Thrones
In George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world, hair color is an important identifier among the noble houses of Westeros and therefore, can be used to differentiate families. This is important as early as Game of Thrones season 1 when Ned Stark discovers that Joffrey, with his golden hair, is Jamie Lannister’s bastard son by examining family history and realizing that black hair is a dominant trait in the Baratheon line. Jon Snow’s black hair is also important in hiding the fact that he’s a Targaryen since Northern houses also seem to carry dominant genes with their dark hair.
Hair color continued to be important in House of the Dragon season 1 as Rhaenyra Targaryen gives birth to three bastard sons – Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey – with Ser Harwin Strong. Because they all have dark brown hair like their father and not silver hair like Rhaenyra’s husband, Laenor Velaryon, it’s an open secret in the Red Keep that her sons are illegitimate. However, since this can’t exactly be proven, they are still presented as legitimate, with Jace acting as Rhaenyra’s official heir.
Hair color will continue to be important in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which follows the adventures of the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. The latter, who is actually Aegon V Targaryen, shaves his silver-gold hair in order to hide his identity as a squire. Considering the importance of hair color in Martin’s fantasy world, it should continue to play a key role in House of the Dragon and future spinoffs.
