Home and Away’s Tane Parata fears that Perri Hayes could be sealing his own fate with a self-defeatist attitude next week.
Tane becomes worried for his young protégé when Perri starts to lose all hope of avoiding a jail sentence over his dad’s death.
Home and Away’s end-of-year cliffhanger on Channel 5 saw Perri kill his abusive father Carl in self-defence.
Perri was forced to fight off Carl after the villain attacked him in the Paratas’ backyard. This week’s episodes see Perri try to avoid facing the police by hiding out at Justin Morgan’s car workshop, but he eventually decides to hand himself in.
In next week’s episodes, Perri starts to wonder whether he made the right decision as the signs aren’t looking good for him.
Some initial evidence gathered by the detectives casts doubt on Perri’s claims of self-defence, which means that he could be jailed for murder rather than facing a lesser charge of manslaughter.
On the morning of Perri’s bail hearing, it’s clear that he’s starting to lose motivation to fight against the charges.
Knowing how important it is for Perri to stay positive, Tane steps in to give him a pep talk.
Tane reflects on his own experiences from the recent baby kidnapping case, admitting that he initially had a similar defeatist attitude.
Tane adds that he ultimately realised he had good people around to support him, especially Harper Matheson.
Meanwhile, Tane faces problems of his own when senior police constable Rose Delaney accuses him of obstructing justice when Perri was on the run.
Rose warns Tane that he could be charged with being an accessory to murder – which would potentially lead to a 20-year prison sentence in light of his previous criminal history.
Theo Poulos is horrified when he hears the news, so he heads to the police station and explains that he was the one who helped Perri to hide out.
Rose forces Theo to undergo some stern questioning over his actions, but later tells him that he’s free to go. Will this be the end of it?
