Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has maintained its premiere viewership, with episode 2 having 6.4 million viewers. The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon spin-off stars Montana Jordan and Emily Osment as the titular characters, respectively.
The series has premiered well to 6.56 million viewers for episode 1, most of which have stayed for episode 2. The series premiered on CBS and Paramount+ on October 17.
What Is George and Mandy’s Spinoff About?
The series follows Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy Cooper (Emily Osment), both first appearing as the characters in Young Sheldon – though Georgie made a brief appearance in TBBT Season 11, played by Jerry O’Connell. With the original show set in the present, the audience, who are long-time fans, will be immediately aware that Georgie has been married more than once – hence the show’s title.
The series has been received well and has been noted to be able to stand on its own two feet. It stands separate from its predecessors, though longtime fans of both shows will surely reap the greater reward in viewing satisfaction.
Writers of the show noted that it was intentional for it to feel like its own show right that exists outside the realms of Sheldon’s life before or after Caltech. Chuck Lorre told TheWrap, “Our hope — and I think we can achieve this — is that had you never seen The Big Bang Theory and you never saw Young Sheldon, these characters are interesting — they’re not doing that well; they struggle, as we all do.”
Given its current viewership, interest in the characters separate from where they originally developed is present for the audience to be there. The numbers as well are very strong from a premiering show, The last season of Young Sheldon only exceeded that number by just under 1.5 million.
The Big Bang Theory Continues to Grow
Georgie and Mandy aren’t the only characters who will be seen returning to screens. Soon, we’ll be receiving a direct sequel to the show that started it all – a Big Bang Theory sequel has been confirmed.
The series will reportedly follow Kevin Sussman, who played comic shop owner Stuart in the original show. Joining him will be Lauren Lapkus and Brian Posehn, who played Stuart’s girlfriend Denise and Caltech geologist Bert, respectively. Also returning will be Chuck Lorre, who has taken part in the creation of the original and all subsequent shows. Whilst we may not be exploring the lives of the core cast of the original show, the plentiful sequels cropping up certainly show that when TBBT ended, there were plenty of great stories still to be told.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage airs new episodes on Thursdays on CBS.
