Georgie & Mandy’S First Marriage Faces Its First Major Hurdle In Episode 3

In Episode 3 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Mandy reveals to her husband that she’s in massive credit card debt; between American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa, she’s racked up $12,000 in unpaid bills. What’s more, the biggest charge was accrued when Mandy brought her ex-boyfriend to the emergency room for a broken wrist.

The following day at work, Georgie goes behind his wife’s back and gets her ex’s name from Jim. He then tracks the (recovering?) alcoholic down to a rundown studio apartment, where he writes the 19-year-old a bad check. When Georgie goes to cash it, said ex walks into Medford Mutual determined to rob the bank and get Mandy her money. Georgie, in turn, runs for his life.

At home, Georgie and Mandy ultimately agree that they’ll work nights to pay off Mandy’s debt. Georgie will drive a tow truck, while Mandy will return to work as a waitress at the Bluebell Diner — a set we last saw in Young Sheldon Season 5. It’s one of three Easter eggs for fans of Georgie & Mandy’s predecessor: The first comes when the titular couple go to dinner at La Puerta Roja Cantina, the same Mexican restaurant where they had their first date; the second comes in the form of guest star Rebecca Metz, whose Officer Gilroy was the one to arrest Meemaw and shut the illegal backroom casino down in Young Sheldon Season 7.

Amid all the relationship drama is a hilarious subplot involving Mandy’s brother Connor. He reveals to the family that he sent Tonight Show host Jay Leno a card when he found out they share the same birthday — and they’ve been friends ever since! In the tag scene, Audrey checks the answering machine to discover that Leno left a message for Connor, telling him that if he’s ever in L.A., he should come sit in with Branford Marsalis and the Tonight Show band. And yes, TVLine can confirm that that was, in fact, Jay Leno, who lent his voice to the episode.
