Outlander fans have speculated about time travel in the series
Devoted Outlander fans may have uncovered a hint in the teaser trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, indicating a potential time travel plot twist.
An Instagram user, @Doreensplace2, shared her theory after noticing a significant detail in the trailer.
The teaser, which was released earlier this year, included scenes of Claire Fraser’s (portrayed by Caitríona Balfe) parents sealing their letters with a kiss.
One scene featured Henry Beauchamp (played by Jeremy Irvine) in military attire, possibly from his time in the trenches, kissing a letter presumably written to his sweetheart Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield).
In the following scene, Julia is seen doing the same, but she seems to be wearing a 17th-century nightgown and a shawl similar to those worn by Claire in previous Outlander episodes, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
The Instagram user juxtaposed this image with another one showing Julia and Henry together in London, dressed in early 20th-century attire.
She pointed out: “Look at this picture, look at her clothes as opposed to her clothes here. You’re going to tell me she hasn’t gone back in time?”.
In response to the video on Instagram, one person commented: “Omg yes ! ! ! I saw the change of time in her clothes and the letter …the show is promising..can’t wait for summer [sic].”
Another viewer speculated: “I’ve always had the feeling it was her dad that was a time traveler, but maybe it’s both also we need more uncle lamb history, there is definitely more there, his connection to Frank, which if I remember correctly is how Frank and Claire met, Frank knew uncle lamb and visited him to get research information and met an 18-19 year old Claire [sic].”
Support for this theory resounded as another fan contributed: “I don’t see how there time travel would not be involved in this series [sic].”
The discussion spiraled onto Reddit where one member highlighted their experience sharing this theory: “I commented this exact theory about a year ago and someone here called me ‘delusional’.”
Others have been convinced for some time, with one admitting: “Same. And I have been saying it for years, like since I read the first books in the late 90s.”
Delving deeper, a fan proposed: “I think maybe Claire travelled as a child too! She says she remembered the feeling of a car accident she was in as a child and how similar travelling through the stones felt.”
And added intrigue with: “That was the car accident her parents were said to die in, and she doesn’t really remember them.”
Another Reddit user mused on this possibility: “I’d never thought that maybe Clare time travelled before she could remember. I wondered whether her parents went time travelling and her uncle just said they died in an accident.”
Skepticism still prevails among some, as demonstrated by a post doubting a related clue: “No, that’s a normal blouse for the World War I era and a generic dark room.”
A second fan speculated: “At least one of them must have had the time traveling gene for her to inherit it, but that doesn’t mean either of them ever went through the stones.”
Set for a premiere on Starz this August 8 and an August 9 release on MGM+ via Prime Video, the 10-part drama is highly anticipated.
The latest installment of Outlander, titled Blood of My Blood, will delve into the romantic pasts of Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire’s parents with stories spanning from World War I to the 17th-century Scottish Highlands.
Devotees of the Outlander series are eager for the new season to answer lingering questions, such as the true circumstances behind Julia and Henry’s death, and any connections to the jaw-dropping cliffhanger from season seven that left fans hanging about Faith’s fate.
