There’s a point in the Outlander season 7 finale promo when John seems to ask William if he loves Jane. Does William love her, or is it just a sense of duty?
In the promo for the Outlander season 7 finale, it looks like John asks William if he loves Jane. Is it possible that he does?
We’re not looking at the book storyline for this. It’s all about the show, and the storyline we’ve been shown so far. Is it possible that Show William has fallen for Jane Pocock already?
Could his need to save her just be duty bound considering everything that previously happened?
Does William even know what love is in Outlander?
My first thought is that William probably doesn’t know what romantic love really is. He may feel something for Jane, but is it really love? Does he understand what love is? This is a man who is still young, and Charles Vandervaart did explains that he played the scene in the brothel with Jane as his first time in the bedroom with a woman.
I have not given permission for Outlander F ans on Facebook to copy this post.
This would suggest that he’s naïve. So, maybe he thinks that it could be love, but he doesn’t really know. I think we can all remember the first time that we thought we had fallen in love as a teenager or a young adult. Now looking back, it probably wasn’t love, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t feel that way at the time.
William likely feels a sense of duty and guilt when it comes to Jane in Outlander
While there is certainly a chance that William feels something like love for Jane, he likely wants to help for another reason. He feels a sense of duty to help her. He promised Jane and Frances to keep them safe, and he wasn’t able to uphold that promise.
William is very conscious of the promises that he makes. He wants to keep his word. As he said in the brothel, his word is the last thing he has to cling to, and Jane had him break it—although I would say that he didn’t break it when it was Jane who made it clear she wanted to be with him.
There’s more to Jane’s story, though. William knows that he caused problems by offering more for Jane than Captain Harkness did. Had William not done this, Harkness would have had his way with Jane. While that would have been awful for Jane, it would have meant Harkness probably wouldn’t have gone back for Frances. Jane probably wouldn’t have killed Harkness and landed herself in shackles. So, there may be a sense of guilt and duty in William because of this.
Either way, I don’t think it’s love but a sense of guilt when it comes to saving Jane. Now we have to hope that William can get to her in time.
