Curious If The Lesser-Known Outlander Character Will Return In Starz’S Spin-Off Series?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is bringing back a character from Outlander season 1, and I’m totally here for it. The upcoming Starz spinoff series will be set a couple of decades before the start of Jamie and Claire’s story (in both their respective timelines), providing us a chance to get to know their parents. The central Outlander series has revealed bits and pieces of the Frasers’ and Beauchamps’ stories, but Blood of My Blood is expected to dive into all the intimate details. This will mean taking a look at many of the important characters they surrounded themselves with.

Outlander season 8 is expected to bring the central series to a close sometime near the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. The wait for this series finale will be eased, however, with the premiere of Outlander: Blood of My Blood on August 8, 2025. It’s the perfect way to soften the blow of Outlander’s ending, since the spinoff will feature characters we know and love from back in season 1. This includes names like Murtagh Fitzgibbons, Dougal MacKenzie, and Colum MacKenzie, all of whom had an impact on Claire’s story. Still, I’m even more excited about the return of Glenna Fitzgibbons.

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood Is Bringing Back Mrs. Fitzgibbons

A Younger Glenna Fitzgibbons Will Be Played By Sally Messham

Among the cast and characters list of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is Glenna Fitzgibbons, who will be played by actor Sally Messham. Often referred to as Mrs. Fitz in Outlander season 1, this character provided significant comfort to Claire during her first few months in 17th-century Scotland. Mrs. Fitz was strict and a tad untrusting, but she could also be immensely motherly, protective, and playful. In fact, this older woman was one of the first characters to make Claire smile in Outlander season 1 after she was forced to return with the MacKenzies to Castle Leoch.

Mrs. Fitz will be a long way off from becoming the grandmotherly figure who took Claire under her wing, but we should see a similar dynamic between Messham’s character and Jamie’s mother.

Mrs. Fitz was a housekeeper at Castle Leoch in Outlander, and it has been revealed that she will serve as a personal maid to Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie’s mother. She is also the aunt (by marriage) to Murtagh Fitzgibbons, who was famously in love with Ellen in his youth. I’m excited to see this younger version of Mrs. Fitz, and Messham looks like the perfect actor to bring her back to the screen. What has me most eager to see Mrs. Fitz back on screen is her powerful personality. The woman never had any trouble speaking her mind, and there were always signs of wisdom and intelligence behind her traditional Highlander superstition. We know from Outlander that Ellen had a constant trail of suitors in her wake, as every man who came to Castle Leoch seemed to fall in love with her. It will be interesting to see how Mrs. Fitz responds to this, and what this will mean for the competitiveness that should exist between Brian Fraser and Murtagh.

The Outlander Prequel Can Make Up For Mrs. Fitzgibbon’s Dropped Story

Blood Of My Blood Can Give Her A More Satisfying Send-Off

Mrs. Fitz may have been only a minor character in Outlander, but she brought a great deal of heart to the series’ earliest episodes. She helped ease Claire into this new world, but this also meant her usefulness to the story ended once Outlander’s protagonist had married Jamie and begun to settle into this time. Because of this, we never really saw what came of Mrs. Fitz. After the battle of Culloden, it’s unclear whether she stayed at Castle Leoch, moved elsewhere, or how long she might have lived. We can assume she is dead by the events of Outlander season 8, but we will never really know.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a prequel series, so it’s unlikely to provide answers regarding Mrs. Fitz’s ending. However, the spinoff can still build onto her character and retrospectively make up for the fact that her story was dropped after Outlander season 1. Said and done, we can hopefully finish Outlander: Blood of My Blood with some peace regarding Mrs. Fitz’s feisty character.
