The S.W.A.T. cast member is returning to the show that kicked off his TV career.
Shemar Moore is heading back to one of his old TV haunts, but the show he’s returning to left fans completely surprised.
In a new photo uploaded to the Criminal Minds star’s Instagram, Shemar revealed that he plans to make a guest appearance on The Young and the Restless just a few weeks after the show celebrated its 50th anniversary on the air. As fans may know, the actor’s upcoming gig holds personal significance for him as he made his TV debut on the show in May 1994. He portrayed the fan-favorite Malcolm Winters for more than a decade until 2005.
“Aaayyee!!! Ya Boy Malcolm Winters is coming back to @youngandrestlesscbs on Monday MAY 8th 😱👊🏽,” he wrote on March 31.
As news of the S.W.A.T. cast member’s comeback in Genoa City went viral, folks immediately commented about the unexpected career venture. Many voiced in the comments how thrilled they were to see Shemar go back to the role that made him famous.
“Hell yeah my grandma is dancing in heaven hearing this,” one person wrote on Instagram. “I haven’t watched it in years but I’m watching that day!” another added. “Yes!!! Yes!!! Yeeeesss!!! Love it!!! … Can’t wait!!! ❤️🥰🙌🏿,” a different follower said.
They weren’t the only ones with opinions, though. Others couldn’t help but share with Shemar how they also hoped to see him on another one of his popular TV shows.
“Can you do [an] appearance in Criminal Minds: Evolution? Please?!” one fan implored. “Would love to see you back on Criminal Minds,” someone else chimed in. “Now we need you to bring back Derek Morgan pleaseeeeeeeee,” another begged.
Though Shemar didn’t comment about this possibility, an official report from Deadline hinted at some details about Shemar’s character’s storyline on The Young and the Restless.
According to the outlet, Malcolm will come back to his hometown with the hopes of reconnecting with his daughter Lily (Christel Khalil) and nephews Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic).
What’s more, this moment isn’t the first time folks have seen Shemar in the role since his departure. He’s made several appearances on The Young and the Restless over the years, with his most recent one being in 2019. He reprised his character for a number of tribute episodes after the death of Kristoff St. John, who portrayed his brother Neil.
Whether he has any plans to reprise his role as Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds is unknown at this point but who knows, this might be a sign not to rule it out …
