Outlander Season 8 Release Date: When We Expect The Final Season To Air

Ahead of season 7’s first half, Outlander was renewed for an eighth and final season in early 2023. More than a year later, we’re still waiting for both season 7’s second part and a release window for season 8. Here’s everything we know so far about the latter.

Season 7 of Outlander was confirmed to be 16 episodes long by Starz, and the second volume is expected to arrive during the back half of 2024. On the other hand, the show’s final season will only contain 10 episodes, a common occurrence with the conclusions of many recent shows. But, more importantly, do we know when it’s arriving?

When is Outlander season 8 premiering on Starz?

Word on the street is that Outlander season 8 has either just begun filming or will do so in the coming months. The original production window was set for late 2023, but as we all know, the strikes blocked progress on several major projects.

As a direct result, and with season 7 part 2 still undated, don’t expect season 8 to premiere in late 2024 or early 2025. We’ll keep this article updated with the latest news regarding its arrival.

What will Outlander season 8 be about?

Since season 7 has yet to finish, we don’t know for sure where (and in which state) we’ll find Claire and Jamie at the start of season 8.

We do know, however, that season 7 is, by and large, adapting Diana Gabaldon’s seventh book in the Outlander series, An Echo in the Bone, which sees the Frasers caught up in the American Revolutionary War and later heading back to Scotland. Logically, season 8 should adapt Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, the eighth of Gabaldon’s books.

Without getting into spoilers, the eighth novel somehow finds ways to get even nuttier and more dramatic as it marries the past and present in surprising ways and twists Claire and Jamie’s relationship once more. There’s the question, however, of how the creatives behind the series will choose to wrap up their take on the massive storyline, as Gabaldon’s books are supposed to end with a tenth installment. Whether parts of book 9, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, make it into season 8 remains to be seen.
