Outlander fans were left stunned when they saw Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan’s new look as he unveiled his new project on social media after moving on from the Starz series
Outlander fans were left stunned as Sam Heughan debuted his new look on social media.
The actor – best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the iconic TV series – took to Instagram to share images of himself in his new role for The Royal Shakespeare Company. Seen with a shaved head in the snaps, Sam looked a far cry from Jamie’s flowing sandy blonde locks in the snap.
Sam has signed on to play the iconic Shakespeare character Macbeth following the completion of filming for Outlander, which he announced with his upload. Captioning the post, Sam wrote, “At age 18, standing on the main stage of the Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, playing ‘spear-carrier number 2’ (essentially a glorified extra) in a production of Macbeth, I could only dream of one day playing the infamous title character.
“It feels full circle to be returning to the stage, after over a decade working primarily in television and film. Not only is Macbeth my favourite Shakespeare play: intense, immediate, and unsettling, it also happens to be famously Scottish. The RSC has always been at the pinnacle of my ambition, and I feel deeply honoured and thankful to be working alongside some enormously talented and creative people.”
He concluded, “The Other Place is the perfect space to create an intense, intimate production and, like lady M, we will be calling upon the spirits of the RSC’s highly acclaimed past productions for their blessing. See you in Stratford Upon Avon! @thersc.”
A press release from The Royal Shakespeare Company shared further details of the on-stage offering. It read, “‘What’s done cannot be undone’ The Scottish Play. The Other Place.
“Daniel Raggett, whose acclaimed Edward II played in the Swan Theatre earlier this year, directs Shakespeare’s story of love, power, and ambition in the intimate setting of The Other Place. Sam Heughan (Outlander, Love Again) makes his RSC debut as Macbeth. Award-winning Lia Williams (The Crown, Skylight) is Lady Macbeth.
“Joining Daniel Raggett are Set and Costume Designer Anna Reid, Lighting Designer Ryan Day, Sound Designer Tingying Dong, and Dramaturg Rebecca Latham. The Casting Director is Charlotte Sutton CDG, with further creative team to be announced.”
Macbeth will be performed at The Other Place in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK, from Thursday, October 9 to Saturday, December 6. Tickets for the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s iconic play will be priced from £25 – £47.00 ($33 – $63).
Fans, of course, still have time to catch Sam on their screens as hero Jamie Fraser with the eighth and final season of Outlander yet to air on Starz.
