Even as Outlander fans shed some tears during this present Droughtlander, in the knowledge that a farewell to the characters of the beloved STARZ series is around the corner. There are already solid plans in place to get those tears wiped away as the highly anticipated prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will officially arrive on Friday, August 8. The love story of Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents as well as Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents will be the spin-off’s focus and has been highly anticipated since the prequel was announced. The eighth and final season of the original Outlander does not have a release date yet, so fans will enjoy the first season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, before the final season of the flagship series airs and then, hopefully, Blood of My Blood carries on the legacy through future seasons.
Just over two months away from the prequel’s release, we have another teaser offering us an even better look at our protagonists. Separated yet connected through time, Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), and Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), lead extravagantly rich love stories. While the Frasers explore their love through the conflicts taking place in the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, the Beauchamps must navigate the brutality of World War I. In the midst of the chaos, there is no denying the desire and passion that rages between them amid their shared destinies.
Who Else Stars in ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’?
Astute lovers of the flagship series will inform you that during its (almost) eight-season run, Outlander introduced a number of nuclear and extended family members of Jamie Fraser, including uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces. The first season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will feature some of these familiar characters, albeit with new faces attached to portray younger versions. Jamie’s uncles, Dougal and Colum MacKenzie, will be played this time around by Sam Retford and Séamus McLean Ross, respectively. Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser returns, but played by Rory Alexander. Sally Messham joins the cast as Mrs. Fitz. In addition to Jamie’s uncles, Dougal and Colum, we’ll also meet Aunt Jocasta Cameron, played by Sadhbh Malin. We’ll have Tony Curran play Simon Fraser, Brian’s father. Other cast members include Conor MacNeill and Harry Eaton.
Original Outlander showrunner and executive producer, Matthew B. Roberts, will return as showrunner for Outlander: Blood of My Blood with Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg all serving as executive producers. Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s first season will have ten episodes and is inspired by the international bestselling book series by author Diana Gabaldon, who also contributed to the prequel’s story.
