The character was last seen in Season 7 and fans hoping to see her in the final season will be left disappointed as her character has been axed
TV fans have been left heartbroken after a recurring character in Outlander will be missing for the final season of the hit show.
Jamie, played by Sam Heughan has a sister Jenny Murray who won’t be returning for the highly-anticipated the eighth season of the show – despite the fact that she should technically be in it according to the book. Fans flocked to social media to complain about her exclusion.
One said: “I was really hoping to see Jenny.” Another added: “There are certain book storylines that Outlander fans would love to see in the final season. Well, there’s some bad news for those hoping to see one particular – Jamie and Jenny.” Screen Rant wrote: “I am so disappointed that Outlander is cutting this character from Season 8 after their beautiful moment in Season 7.”
The upcoming final season will be based largely on Diana Gabaldon’s ninth Outlander book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. However, since the author hasn’t yet published her tenth and final book in the series, Starz has to make significant changes to wrap up its version of the story – so Jenny Murray is out, to fans’ dismay.
Jenny, Jamie’s sister, made a return appearance in Outlander season 7 when Jamie and Claire made a trip to Scotland. This character had previously been played by Laura Donnelly, who made her final appearance in Outlander season 3 when the Frasers first headed out for the Americas. In season 7, Jenny was played by Kristin Atherton since Donnelly could not return to the role. Atherton gave a great performance, and seeing any version of Jenny return to the screen was a joy. Unfortunately, it seems we have seen the last of this character.
Jenny won’t be the only beloved castmate to not make a return. Tobias Menzies, known for his roles as Frank / Black Jack Randall and his appearances in The Crown, has confirmed he won’t be appearing in the final series. Jane She wrote: “Over n out s7. Thank you thank you thank you @glenmariani for trusting me to find Jane and letting me be part of this incredible experience And finally, @charles_vandervaart for being a quality scene partner and ray of sunshine – big up uncs @outlander_starz @starz it’s been a pleasure.”
Silvia Presente who plays Jane Pocock is also out. She said on social media: “Over n out s7. Thank you thank you thank you @glenmariani for trusting me to find Jane and letting me be part of this incredible experience And finally, @charles_vandervaart for being a quality scene partner and ray of sunshine – big up uncs @outlander_starz @starz it’s been a pleasure.”
