Outlander is set to return for its eighth and final season and could feature the show’s biggest twist yet.
Ahead of its eighth and final season, Outlander enthusiasts may have deciphered one of the show’s most significant mysteries.
The beloved Starz drama centres on time-traveller Claire (portrayed by Caitriona Balfe), who finds herself in 18th Century Scotland after stumbling upon a set of magical stones.
She swiftly encounters and falls for Highlander soldier Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and, despite being separated through time and enduring historical upheaval, they’ve now made North Carolina their home.
In recent seasons, the Fraser family has grappled with the American Revolution, with Jamie fighting for independence and Claire utilising her healing abilities during the Battle of Monmouth.
However, the arrival of the Pocock sisters, Jane (Silvia Presente) and Fanny (Florrie Wilkinson), suspected to be the daughters of Claire and Jamie’s late daughter, Faith, has thrown their world into disarray.
This revelation is arguably the most shocking twist yet, suggesting that the stillborn child from the second season miraculously survived the difficult birth in France.
Viewers were left in suspense, pondering how this could be possible – but a crucial moment from Diana Gabaldon’s original book series might hold the answers.
An article penned by a devoted Outlander fan on Screen Rant highlights a peculiar, possibly supernatural, instance where Claire revives a different stillborn baby.
For those keen to delve into the details, this event doesn’t occur until the ninth and latest book in the popular series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
“Claire actually did bring a stillborn baby back using her powers,” they penned.
“This transpired after she and Jamie returned to Fraser’s Ridge with Fanny, where Claire delivered twins.
“One of the infants didn’t survive, but Claire cradled the baby’s body, recalling the agonising pain of losing Faith.
“As she did this (and Jamie wrapped his arms around his wife and the baby), Claire began to sense a park of life within the child. She then drew from her love for Jamie and their physical connection to strengthen the baby’s life force.”
Should this miracle take place in season eight, it could lead Claire to realise that her healing abilities far surpass her comprehension and might shed light on how Faith survived.
However, several mysteries remain unsolved, primarily what became of Faith after her supposed baptism and burial.
We’re also left wondering who fathered Jane and Fanny with Faith, and whether Claire and Jamie’s daughter is alive or dead.
With only one season remaining before Outlander concludes, fans will have to bide their time to see if these questions are answered.
Fortunately, the franchise isn’t grinding to a halt. The forthcoming spin-off series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will unravel the story of Claire and Jamie’s parents this summer.
