NCIS Origins has already made its mark in the US and now its UK fans’ turn to get a glimpse into the history of Agent Gibbs.
NCIS continues to be one of the longest-running scripted TV shows and while Agent Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) is no longer in the CBS police procedural, he played an integral role in making the drama a success.
He led the Washington team for a whopping 19 seasons before starting afresh in Alaska but since his departure, fans have missed the silver-haired agent.
So it was welcomed news when it was announced a Gibbs prequel would be on the way with the series now ready to debut in the UK.
NCIS Origins UK release date
NCIS Origins came out in America on Monday, October 14 and now, five months later, the prequel will be coming out in the UK.
The series, which focuses on Gibbs’ past, will be making its UK debut with the first two episodes on Thursday, March 13, on Paramount+.
After this, the remaining 16 episodes are going to be released weekly on the streamer until the grand finale drops on Thursday, July 3.
Leading the way as a young Gibbs is actor Austin Stowell who is best known for his roles in films such as Catch-22, The Hating Game, Bridge of Spies, Dolphin Tale and Whiplash.
Copper, Six and Being Human star Kyle Schmid is taking on the role of the younger version of Gibbs’ boss and team leader Special Agent Mike Franks, originally played by Muse Watson.
They are joined by Promised Land’s Mariel Molino as Agent Lala Dominguez, The Blacklist actress Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland and The Chi’s Tyla Abercrumbie as Officer Mary Jo Sullivan.
It has already been confirmed that while actor Mark Harmon won’t be a recurring figure in the show, not only does he narrate the series, he does briefly show up in the first episode.
NCIS Origins plot
Set in 1991, NCIS Origins sees Gibbs join the Naval Investigative Service in Camp Pendleton after serving in the Marines.
Mike Franks becomes his mentor and leads a team featuring fellow former Marine Special Agent Dominguez and Special Agent Strickland.
The drama takes place after Gibbs’ wife and daughter were murdered by Pedro Hernandez with the agent adjusting to a new life without his family.
NCIS Origins also sees him find “his place on a gritty, ragtag team”, highlighting how he came to create his rules and become the leader that fans grew to love since NCIS began in 2003.
NCIS Origins premieres in the UK on Thursday, March 13, on Paramount+.
