NCIS has been going strong for over 20 years, and is now expanding to encompass the new spinoffs NCIS: Tony & Ziva and the prequel series NCIS: Origins.
While NCIS: Tony & Ziva is scheduled to premiere next year, NCIS: Origins has already kicked off, and Season 22 of the original series began in October. The NCIS franchise’s fanbase faithfully tune in each week, no matter the time of the year. As Christmas approaches, questions about whether NCIS will air during the holiday season are coming.
NCIS will be getting holiday specials, beginning with episode 9 of Season 22.
The NCIS crew will solve another mystery for the show’s upcoming Christmas show which will be called Humbug, and air on December 16.
Ahead of its release, according to the CBS logline, per Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the episode was set to be action-packed.
“When a shocking tell-all threatens to ruin Christmas for a decorated Marine, NCIS must unwrap the truth and deliver a holiday miracle – before the book hits shelves and turns a hero’s legacy into a holiday disaster,” the CBS plotline reads. Not only is NCIS getting a holiday episode, but so is the prequel series NCIS: Origins. The NCIS: Origins Christmas show is going to be called Blue Bayou, and will follow young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) as he gets ready for Christmas after his wife and daughter died.
The flashbacks were set to focus on Leroy’s role at his new position at the NIS Camp Pendleton office along with characters Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) and Lala (Mariel Molino). The NCIS: Origins Christmas episode Blue Bayou will also air on December 16.
NCIS: Origins is the NCIS’ recent spinoff. It delves into the main character Leroy’s early days of crime-solving, giving fans a peek into his past. The iconic character originally was played by actor Mark Harmon, who departed from the original CBS series in 2021 without making a comeback, passing the baton to Austin for this series.
Mark was the one to help develop NCIS: Origins, and serve as a producer along with his son. On top of that, he contributed his voice for narration, giving the story another added element of depth.
