Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe have teased how Claire’s marriage twist will impact her relationship with Jamie in season 7. At the end of Outlander season 7, episode 11, Jamie and Claire are reunited, after she believed he had died aboard his ship after it was lost at sea. However, this comes after her and Lord John Grey (David Berry) not only got married to protect her from suspicion of treason, but also slept together while thinking of their partner as the missing soldier. This opens doors for plenty of complications moving forward.
Speaking with Screen Rant about the situation, Heughan and Balfe explained how Claire and Jamie’s time in Outlander together makes them mostly inseparable. However, her sleeping with Lord John also “[creates] a huge rift” between them, which they tease will be resolved using events from the book. They also confirm the pair will find some way of moving past what happened, although they both remain vague about how the entire storyline will play out. Check out what Heughan and Balfe had to say below:
Sam Heughan : It’s a huge moment for Jamie and Claire and probably one of the most trying moments they’ve had as a couple for a long time.
Caitríona Balfe: I think the one thing [is that], at this point in their relationship, we’re beyond the kind of will-they-won’t-they. Their bond is so strong and so deep. But it does create a huge rift and it’s about, “Well, how do they repair that? How do they get over that?” I think that that’s a really interesting examination of a marriage. How do they fix that?
Sam Heughan: Yeah, and I think it plays out in a very typically Outlander way. It’s one of these big scenes that perhaps isn’t your stereotypical scene from a TV show. It’s very much book-orientated.
But Jamie and Claire, that’s what they’re good at. They’re good at hashing things out. I think it probably would break another couple, but they do find a way. Or do they? But, yeah, they do. I think it makes them stronger and makes them a tighter couple.
What Heughan & Balfe’s Statements Mean For Jamie & Claire In Outlander Season 7
The Pair Will Find A Way To Heal From What Happened
The decision she makes following Jamie’s return will be important not just for their relationship, but for their overall safety and the security of their family.
When Claire and Lord John slept together, they both believed Jamie was dead, and that their lives had been upended forever in the process. His return comes as a shock because of the news they’d both been informed of, something that’s both a relief to the pair, alongside a new difficulty just waiting to happen. While both are going to be happy overall that the man they both love wasn’t aboard the Utopia, their swift marriage after learning of the news could have disastrous consequences on the outset for the show’s core relationship.
However, since Outlander season 8 has been confirmed, and will be the end of the show, these next five episodes of season 7 will likely resolve the dispute doubtless to come. But it may also open the door to new storylines, possibly emphasizing what this new marriage means for Claire and suspicions surrounding her potentially being an enemy of the government. The decision she makes following Jamie’s return will be important not just for their relationship, but for their overall safety and the security of their family.
Our Take On How Outlander Season 7 Will Impact Claire & Jamie’s Relationship
The Pair Will Find A Way To Move On By Season’s End
We think it’s very likely Claire and Jamie will resolve their precarious marriage situation by the end of the season, pushing the story forward into its final episodes in the process. While Outlander could go in any direction, its confirmed faithfulness to the books in this scenario means readers will already know how the pair wind up putting their differences aside. For first-time viewers, however, what plays out next won’t be familiar, meaning concrete answers about what happens won’t arrive until the next episode airs.
