A couple of years after she left NCIS, show star Pauley Perette took to X, which was Twitter then, to explain exactly why she was done with the crime drama
Former NCIS star Pauley Perrette’s departure from the show was heartbreaking to many fans.
However, Pauley’s reason for leaving was justifiable. While on the show, her character, forensic expert Abby Sciuto, worked well with her co-star Mark Harmon’s character Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. In real life, it was the exact opposite between the two small screen stars. Tensions had gotten so bad, that it contributed to Pauley exiting NCIS in 2017 after spending 15 years on the series. Her leaving had many fans speculating if Mark had anything to do with her decision to quit. A couple of years after she left NCIS, Pauley took to X, which was Twitter then, to explain exactly why she was done with the crime drama.
Pauley’s first X posts revealed how she initially didn’t delve into her exit in an attempt to protect the NCIS crew, jobs, and other people.
That changed when she realized that her silence possibly wasn’t helping the situation, and so she shared exactly what resulted in her departure.
“There is a ‘machine’ keeping me silent, and feeding FALSE stories about me. A very rich, very powerful publicity ‘machine’. No morals, no obligation to truth, and I’m just left here, reading the lies, trying to protect my crew. Trying to remain calm. He did it,” Pauley posted on then-Twitter in 2019.
In a follow-up tweet, she went on to hint at all of the difficulties she had to endure while on the show.
“I’ve been supporting ant-bullying programs forever. But now I KNOW because it was ME!,” Pauley added. “If it’s school or work, that you’re required to go to? It’s horrifying. I left.
Multiple Physical Assaults. I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone.”
At the time, Pauley also emphasized why she would never come back to NCIS despite many fans wanting her to.
“NO I AM NOT COMING BACK! EVER! (Please stop asking?) I am terrified of Harmon and him attacking me,” she explained. “I have nightmares about it. I have a new show that is SAFE AND HAPPY! You’ll love it! #HappyPlace Love y’all!.”
